Lexia Foundation Reading is designed to help all children master basic reading skills. The program gives instant feedback and adjusts automatically to each child’s abilities. The on-screen alerts and user-friendly database management track each child's performance.

Within an independent practice environment, children build speed and accuracy in the application of phonics skills. Using headphones, the program develops critical phonological reading skills to foster automatic word recognition while monitoring for meaning. The activities promote comprehension skills through the application of phonological strategies to single words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and stories, and emphasize listening skills and following directions.

Recommended use for children aged 5-8 years are 3 to 5 sessions per week with each session lasting between 15 to 30 minutes (depending upon the age of the child). [In research studies, children who completed a minimum of 45 sessions demonstrated measurable reading gains on standardized and normed tests. Students with higher frequencies of use, over 60 sessions, were observed to make the highest gains.]
