Lexia Reading Core5 expands upon the scope of award-winning Lexia Reading and covers the six areas of reading for students of all abilities in years 1 through 6. Any students with a Core5 license in years 7 and above have access to Lexia's Strategies for Older Students.
Lexia Reading Core5 provides students immediate corrective feedback, multiple levels of scaffolding, and explicit instruction both online and through direct instruction with the teacher.
Students work independently to develop reading skills in a structured, sequential manner with a focus on:
Each student follows a personalized learning path, with adaptive placement and pacing in activities designed specifically to meet the most rigorous standards.
Teachers are provided data-driven action plans - unique to each student - that are simple to interpret and drive differentiated instruction.
Within the first month of use, teachers will know each student's probability of meeting end-of-year, year-level benchmarks, and will receive the recommended resources and intensity of instruction necessary to change the trajectory for at-risk students.
Teachers can focus on instruction - without having to stop to administer a test - by using the program's norm-referenced, embedded assessment and progress monitoring.
Lexia Strategies is designed for remedial students in years 7 and above, requiring remediation reading. The program focuses on foundational reading skills, starting at year 1 skill levels, with a more mature, age-appropriate interface and a range of content that covers basic phonological awareness through advanced decoding skills, vocabulary development, and comprehension activities. Lexia Strategies will help identify the remedial needs of each student and differentiate the instructional intensity needed to accelerate reading skills development.
Lexia Strategies develops foundational reading skills through an engaging interface designed specifically for struggling students in years 7 - 13. The activities incorporate high utility words and academic vocabulary with age-appropriate topics, while students develop the basic skills necessary for becoming successful readers.
When students first log into the program, they are automatically placed at the proper level and work at their own pace on developing their foundational reading skills in a mature, focused learning interface. If a student begins to struggle in any skill activity, the program provides scaffolding, simplifying the task to allow students to practice that skill with additional support to help ensure success. Once they demonstrate proficiency in this scaffolded practice environment, students return to the standard task to continue in the program.

Lexia’s Assessment Without Testing technology is an embedded assessment system that provides educators with actionable, norm-referenced performance data without interrupting the flow of instruction to administer a test. Based on student skill level and rate of progress, the system predicts each student’s chance of reaching an end-of-year benchmark, and prescribes instructional intensity to improve performance on year-level assessments. The system also delivers detailed, real-time reports on students’ specific skill deficits and recommends targeted instructional materials to accelerate skill development.
Based on student skill level and rate of progress, the performance predictor indicates each student’s chance of reaching the end-of-year benchmark for his or her grade level. Calculated on a monthly basis, the performance predictor is a norm-referenced measure of risk of reading failure.
Prescription of Intensity:
Based on each student’s performance predictor, Lexia prescribes the level of instructional intensity needed to increase the student’s probability of reaching the end-of-year benchmark. This monthly measure includes the number of minutes the student should use the software, as well as recommendations for targeted instruction.
Lexia provides educators with actionable, assessment-quality data, allowing them to measure and analyze progress in real-time. The program’s embedded assessment technology provides granular, skill-specific data for every student, without ever having to administer a test. This approach reduces dependence on traditional reading tests and allows the reallocation of time and budget to support instruction. Learn more ..
